Pitch Bend Vst's for Automation?

I'm having a hell of a time finding vst effects that will work with automated envelopes in Acid pro. I want a simple unit that does professional sounding pitch bending (tempo control would be nice), preferable freeware...but I'm open to anything.

The one that comes with Acid pro is not automatable...which f'in sucks.

thanks all,

Making loops from recorded stuff... what am I missing?

So, I record some beats, edit them down to a loop in Sound Forge, then drop them into Acid. Inevitably, the beat's off. So I go to the chopper and select it, get it looping real nice and chop to a new track... then 1 of 2 things happens... 1. It's off (usually long) or 2. It becomes a hair too long so that it can't be painted contiguously across the track(i.e. You paint and it stops, then you skip a little of the measure and paint another 1 pass.)
I am sure that I'm just missing something really obvious about how the program is structured, but... help!

I Was Wondering How Others Apply Effects To Vocals In Acid Pro 5. I Create A Bus With All The Effects I Want In It And Take Down The Normal Volume Of The Track And Apply The Bus Track. But I Have Read Some People Do It In Layers By Compressions And Making It Into A Wave Then Reopening It And Adding Other Effects. Is The Bus Way The Wrong Way To Apply Effects?

ok heres the deal when i try to record audio into my acid pro 6
it ALWAYS records mono (either hard left or hard right on my track)
my audio interface is'nt the best but it's what i have for the moment
(i'm using a tascam us224) it records fine w/my other programs though
sonar 5.2 producers edition & cubase sx3 ??????
i've gone into audio devices in acid & everything seems fine
it shows my us-224 stereo l/r............
even in my sounds and audio devices property's
everythings looks in order (windows xp)
but for me to get a stereo audio recording i either have
to record a track then duplicate that track & pan 1 hard left
and 1 hard right or split the line and use both my A & B imputs on
my tascam us-224.................i hope this makes since to someone

We all use it, why not make that an advantage? Is there a way we can post projects to each other on this site? Why not start some silly game that makes us all feel good? No time? right.....lol, I know you went 23 hours without peeing because you were to into makeing that song or mix that time (ahem THOSE TIMES), so don't tell us you don't have time. We have so much at our fingertips, I recommend a tribe remix contest, collaberation, and feedback arrangement. Unlike ACIDplanet, this is still a little small, which garrentees a bit more of a person to person basis for exchange. We could all keep busy in our own little worlds, or maybe like me the bigger sense of the word music has taken over your life, and you'd like more.
Just putting it out there while remodeling of the site is going on. Remodel yourself.

mastering and premastering with acid and other progs

I've been using acid pro for several years and have found that while it's one of the finest programs for musical expression, the mastering side, falls a little short.

1st off I guess I need to say is that I hardly ever use the pluggins that come with the software. I have found that the Sony pluggings tend to be somewhat cpu intensive and are not up to the quality of the Acid software so I use one of the Waves bundles almost exclusivly.

Now on to mastering and pre-mastering..oops got the cronological order wrong lol.

Generaly, these days, if I'm working on quality production, I'll work my track panning, DB and hrz levels so most everything is balanced, won't cause ear fatigue due to hrz levels being to high or low and once these things are done, I'll pre-master the whole project at -10 to -12 dbs, render as a .wav then master in T-Racks using, as a start, one of the pre-sets which comes closest to the feel I want to achive, adjusting and fine tuning from that point.

The master .wav with be rendered at -2 to -1 DBs.

I've found that for depth, clearity and width that this works best for me...at least until I find a better way.

A lot of people i know use the Waves ultra maximizer to master with, but my experiance has been that it doesn't give finite control like T-Racks and tends to bring out a "metalic" digital sound/feel without much warmth.

I hope this may have been helpful and if anybody has other methods, feel free to add to this thread 8-)

You know what I can't stand, dear Acid users?

....pretentious Abelton Live beard-strokin' Mac-propaganda-spoutin' cretins who take every oppurtunity to cut down Acid software and insult those who use it!

y'know what - I gave Abelton Live a really fair chance... I took the time to learn the annoying ins and outs and really compared it against Acid Pro 5. I found it totally un-user friendly, frustrating and poorly designed. What I could accomplish with a few elegant clicks of my mouse within Acid took waaaay too long in Abelton. I noticed absolutely no difference in sound quality whatsoever... and besides the sound quality ultimately comes down to your computer's soundcard really. Acid 5 is a sophisticated, solid and professional loop-based sequencing environment that is totally unmatched by anything else out there.. its no "toy" or gimmick for rookies. Sure its not the "one-stop" solution to all your electronic music production needs (thats what Sonar 4 is for ! :) ) but Acid is a one-trick pony that does its one trick very well, EVERY time.

cheers guys.

CREATIVE USES OF ACID PRO

I thought a thread where we shared different and perhaps unusual ways of using ACID Pro to be creative would be cool.
Anyone up for that?

Here's mine: I love taking an ambient loop that has a definite tonal center (preferably without polyphony or harmony) and with a melody in your head you play the loop with your hand on the S key.

Now tap the rhythm of the melody that you have composed or improvised on the S key and go back and individually tune each individual split with the + and the - keys (you can, of course, go up
or down two octaves in half steps intervals).

What is cool is that if the ambient .wav is long the change in the timbre of the melody will be relatively random as you 'play' your melody across the length of the loop (or multiple loops).

In fact, you can loop the track in a separate ACID document at a completely different speed from the melody you have in mind for your piece of music.

A groovy way to get a very quirky ambient track to work with in the first place is to use the convolution program in whatever program you are using (I use Cool Edit Pro specifically for convolving sounds)
and convolve say, a single guitar harmonic or note with say, a drum set........................In this what you will get a long and constantly changing .wav that still has a definite tonal center.

Does this make sense? I"m writing it quickly.

Now, what other cool techniques have people stumbled on to use ACID?

I have a question about ACID 5.0

There are times where I hit the S key or the V or P keys and nothing
happens.

Is this a glitch in the programming or is there some kind of button to turn on or off.

I've been used to working exceptionally rapidly in ACID and this new developement is really slowing me down.

Any ideas? I can't seem to find anything in the manual about it.

With the two largest live looping events scheduled in history for this summer in Zurich Switzerland and Santa Cruz, California I think it is time to have a tribe that specifically addresses the phenomenae ofI LIVE LOOPING. A tribe for all the people who love using either
software or hardware based to perform in public.

Not intended to compete with this tribe (or any tribe)
we will discuss aesthetic aspects of performing live
with looping gear; share stories of our origins, aspirations, frustrations, gear lust, gear tragedies, etc.

Come join if this sounds interesting:

hey there people. i just got acid pro from a friend who never used it. i have sound forge cause i use it here and there to edit concerts that i record. i also have rebrith which someone gave me cause i thought it looked like a cool toy.

so i have all these programs, but i have no idea how to use them. i just played around with the rebirth and created some lame loops, but nothing i'm really pleased with. i'm a real drum and basshead, but i just can't figure out what i'm doin. i know the best thing to do is usually play around with programs to figure them out, but how did you guys learn the program? i don't dj at all or anything, i'm just a novice here. did you read a manual, or just play around?

so i'm looking for recomendations. i don't need someone to walk me through the whole thing step by step. i know no one wants to do that, but i'm just wonder what the best way is for me to learn acid pro. so, i'm open to all suggestions.

any and all info/critisizm is welcome and appreciated.

Multi - tempo within a song in Acid (?)

I have a question and have been trying to figure out. Is it possible to have more than one tempo within one song session?

Say for instance I want the first 30 seconds of a song to be 80bpm and then maybe the following 2 minutes to be 142 and then back to 80.

It seems as I have tried to have difficulty doing such that it only keeps bpm for the entire session.

Comments? Suggestions?

52 members in this tribe. What kind of music are you making with Acid Pro, and how much of your production is done with Acid? What other technologies are you using integrated with Acid?

I use Acid 4.0, SoundForge 7.0, and Reason 2.5; and the music I make with it is pretty much all electronic (for now at least) either electro style, breakbeat, or downtempo. Acid is my favorite interface for all the sequencers I've used to this point, so I try to do as much there as possible. I do a lot of editing in SoundForge with various plugins and cheap tricks with the built-in tools, and I like to use Reason mostly for synths and all the multiple routing fx configs you can use to really warp your sounds. I've got a few soft synths, but the PC I have now can't really handle too many things at once in acid because I like to really stack my fx chains on just about every channel and I like to bus and compress the hell out of my drums (and I usually have about 2 or 3 different full beats going at once to make up each breakbeat).

ACID Pro and FLStudio producers edition

for some reason, tribe won't allow me to respond to the last thread so I'm continuing here:

I agree with almost everything the JHIMM said with this notable exception:
"there's nothing FLS can do that Acid Pro can't
and vice versa, "

I just have to disagree........there are really specific algorhythms in Fruity Loops that allow you to granulate the patterns, slice them up but then use different randomizations.............there is midi input in the piano roll that ACID doesn't have.

I love them both and ACID also has the whole loop stretching and retuning aspects that are really different from the way FLStudio works.

I am , for what it's worth about to release my fourth commercial CD and I have used FLStudio producers edition and ACID Pro 4.0 almost exclusively for what that's worth.

I hear a lot of people though constantly looking for a simple solution for making music. The way I look at it, the more tools that I have (especially if they do different specific tasks) the better the end result will be IF I HAVE A GOOD IDEA for a song or piece of music.

My only problem with the ACID culture is that a lot of people rely on premade loops to create 'their' music. I don't think this is entirely wrong, but a lot of the music I hear at the ACID website has a similarity to it.

Paul, if you want to make your mark in electronic music or loop production I would start seriously looking into how create sound design. The leaders all do this.

Towards that end I'd highly advise you to check out the producers edition of FLStudio (formerly Fruity Loops). At $149 and with the most recent editions to their software it has left the realm of being a
cheap non professional music creation software and is one of the most reasonably priced yet very powerful compositional tools.

Just my 2 cents.

Fruity who?

There's one company that has always amazed me. It's Serious Magic, http://seriousmagic.com. The make a product call Visual Communicator which for less than $200 gives any fool with a video camera the ability to do scripted, green screen productions-- TelePrompter and all-- using any old webcam.

Green screen technology. That's when the camera replaces the background with some other moving picture in real time, and it appears like you're off in Hawaii or Alaska, but you're really just sitting in some cubicle. Not many years ago, this green screen technology cost over $100,00. Now... I got my license for $100 when they were just starting out. Amazing.

Acid too, is like Visual Communicator. Here they're practically giving away technology that cost 100's of times more just a few short years ago. But the problem remains. All these amazing tools are designed for individual composers, not to facilitate group projects. That's the lynch pin. That's what Sony and all the other streaming media companies have yet to realize.

So what's the this Fruity Loops gig? Some of the sample sounds that came with their free demo blew me away. Gads! If you're willing to cross that line and compose in the always evidently electronically generated gender, wow!

I see the potential, but there's seems to be a steep learning curve. For some reason Acid production is so much more intitutive. None the less, it might be a good tool for generating some unique loops to run through Acid. My take is this: the key to Acid production is starting with some kick ass loops. I like that "all classical" CD recored in Moscow. I'll probably get that. But then I discovered that Sony has this, Loops on Demand site with good loops for just $2. http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/loop_libraries/ondemand.asp That's where I'll be shopping.

So... here's my question. Before I commit to spending a $299 upgrade fee for Acid Pro, I want to make sure that there isn't a better tool for my musical ambitions. That's how I found the Fruity Loops people. http://Fruity Loops.com What's they're story? Looks like they have polished product and a nice community... BUT has anybody created a CD with Fruity Loops that's made any money.

One more big player-- I have to evaluate is the CakeWalk folks. Do they have anything comparable to Acid Pro? From reading the boards I get the notion that Sony is way behind the ball on the release of Acid 5.0, and for the time being, http://cakewalk.com technology is stealing all the momentum in this product category.

But as someone said... a few days ago... the intuitive simplicity and amazing productivity of the Acid model has always set the standard.

I've decided to add some more onto that acidplanet remix contest. Just because the day ends, is no need to end the song.

Anyway... is it possible to adjust the volume on the two stereo tracks independently? I doubt it-- I've looked everwhere. How about splitting each of the two stereo tracks into two seperate files-- probably need some special utility for that.

New laptop, New Problem....

so doesn't it just go to figure: you get a sweet
new toy (laptop) to help you out of the miasm of
celeron based non existent processor speed....the
new baby is a *cadillac*....3Ghz processor...512 RAM...
80Gig HD....but instead of solving problems you just
end up with *different* problems!!!

here's my dillema. loaded acid 2.0 into the new
machine succesfully...a little taken back by the
shiny way it looks in xp....set up my effects pages
and preferences and then took it for a spin.

what i found is that for some reason i am unable to
use "playback while recording" without the backing
audio being recorded along with the new audio track.
so if i try to lay a vocal over a loop of beats, the
vocal AND the beats get rerecorded on every take.

all i've come up with so far is a rejoinder from the
acid "help" files that says that some audio cards are
not equipped for simultaneous playback/record. and yes,
i AM using my onboard soundcard for the moment.

could it be that my two older machines- both of them
budget level slow like molasses celeron based machines-
actually have soundcards with better features than my
brand new two grand machine!!!???

am i just missing something very easy to fix here?

is there a way to "enable" playback while recording
in some location other than the box you check in the
record window to make it happen?

and since this obviates my much needed next purchase:
i.e. SOUNDCARD does anyone have any suggestions on
a card that they have PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with that
is very straightforward and easy for someone who rarely
(if ever) needs more than two stereo ins?

i've been thinking of the simple edirol USB interfaces,
the Tascam USB 122 (the new blue and silver job w/mic
pre's) and also the m-audio firewire 410. is anyone
using any of these? if you are do you mind saying a
word or two about them?

thanks for any help!

peace.

I just started creating these Acid 4.0 mixes. It seems pretty simple. Here's my first two creations. They're just 30 seconds each. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=289305&T=252 The first one is classical, the second one is expermental.

Now I'm looking at this contest. Tweaker? As I read about him, I get the impression that this is a commercially successful artist. Do people actually make money using this Acid technology? How about those contest sample songs. The original songs aren't that good. They're just examples right.

I think I may have a knack for this, but just wondering what the landscape looks like. Any pointers or suggestions would be appreciated.

Insuring the best fidelity of loop stretching in ACID

ACID always defaults to 120 beats a minute.
This means that whatever the BPM of your sample, ACID
will automatically stretch it.

I discovered this trick for insuring the best fidelity of your initial loops by figuring out the exact BPM of your initial loop.

To do this, add a track and stretch it out to exactly one bar length.

Now, duplicate the track and change the duplicates PROPERTIES right click on the channel) to ONE SHOT under the GENERAL tab.

You will now have two versions of the same loop: once ACIDIZED and one as a ONE SHOT sample.

Now, change the master tempo of the whole ACID file until
the LOOPED sample and the ONE SHOT sample are one and the same.

You can get this quite accurate by putting the cursor at the end of the ACIDIZED loop and then hitting the up arrow key to
expand the track as much as possible.

I've found that the fidelity of your initial tracks is much better with this trick.

Any other tricks for using ACID?

Pitch Shifting?

so you're saying that there's a way to pitch shift in ACID that doesn't stretch the hell out of the audio?

every time i try to pitch shift using the drop down menu of a given track the track just time stretches to achieve the change in pitch which is basically lame and usually unuseable.

how would you pitch shift it and keep the lenghth of the track constant?

thanks for the advice.

and any of you guys and girls ever use fruity pro studio? i love the shit out of fruity loops 3 as a sequencing/beat/loop/song creating tool and i was wondering how the fruity pro studio felt to anyone who's used it.

such as speeding up/slowing down and changing pitch but not on the whole loop, just a segment of it within a track... Possible w/acid or to you have to load the track more than once and alter it in the sections you want:

loop: xxxx/xxxx/xxxx/xxxx/
..... a....c#...e....a
can't get it to display correctly, but hopefully you know what i mean.

ive been using acid for a few years now, but mainly as just a strait up track recording unit (like a 4 track) and mix down before exporting it to soundforge for psudo-mastering with wavehammer and the like. once in a while i'll use it for more arrangement type orchestrations. mostly tho, i use fruityloops for source creation and arrangement..

The Grey album

I just found this today....

For those of you who don't know what the grey album is, It's an album that was put together by DJ Dangermouse using Jay-Z's Black Album construction Kit, and the Beatles White Album. This caused alot of controversy becuase EMI did not like his use of Beatles samples. anyway, there's a huge debate and protest over it. You can read more about it at
http://www.greytuesday.org - a protest site that sprung up.

Anyway, it’s official… the grey album was made with Acid Pro:
